However, the fact that leadership has been studied extensively in the past decades merely suggests that it is a relevant topic of study. This combined with the fact that empirical evidence shows we are clearly not yet where we need to be leads to the conclusion that all of this should not decrease – but rather increase – one’s motivation to explore leadership further, deeper and in novel ways.
Moreover, there is something fundamentally dysfunctional in the way we are trying to transfer knowledge from books to practice when it comes to leadership: We all learned at some point in school/university that good leadership is about making smart and well-informed decisions in difficult and complex situations, while incentivizing and treating people with respect and fairness. However, when looking at the everyday hurdle of real-life organizations, one can easily say that And sure, we can do all kinds of diagnostics to learn more about how we suck at making things happen, but in the end of the day, we are
I believe we need to 1) dig deeper than that, and 2) use completely different kinds of influencing methods to get real results. By “results” here I mean a real, tangible and gradual transformation in how we lead each other and ourselves in all forms of organizations.

My plan is to target some of the most relevant and leading “leadership academies” (basic schooling all across the globe, top universities raising leaders, as well as companies giving leadership training) and make concrete change happen in the way they teach leadership. This is just one step on the way, but I think combined with getting to the bottom of why things typically go wrong, this is a step in the right direction.
